The Lime Green Poncho

In the mist of my trials, God showed me the bigger picture. In this photo, I’m wearing an elegant black and white poncho that was given to me by a woman from Faith Christian Center in Smyrna, Georgia. When I look at this picture of me, it reminds me of how God is faithful to ALL of His promises.

Several months prior to receiving this designer poncho, God taught me a valuable lesson about giving. I was living in a shelter that had rules in Atlanta with my daughter Porsche. After following all the rules, I was given the privilege to enter into a closet filled with nice stuff. Oh, my goodness, there were so many things to choose from and I felt good. I was told to pick only one thing, I grabbed a cute lime green poncho. I was so appreciative of the nice gift. That same day, I wore it. My roommate who had a small baby girl,  gave me a compliment on my lime green poncho. I smiled then said, “Thank you!” Soon after, I received an urge in my spirit to give my lime green poncho to my roommate but I didn’t want to let it go. I kept talking with the Lord, saying if my roommate follow the rules, she can enter the closet and get one too. My roommate had no clue that I was having a conversation with the Lord.

After a few days,  I was still explaining to the Lord why I shouldn’t give my lime green poncho away. It was cute to me, it kept me warm and the nicest thing that I had. One day, my roommate told me that she was leaving to move back home to Florida. I felt that urge in my spirit again to give her my lime green poncho. This time I gave it to her with a hug then wished her well on her trip back home to Florida.

A couple of months passed, I was accepted into the Center for Family Resources transitional program where I lived in an apartment for two years,  with all utilities/rent paid but I paid based on my income.  At the time, I was going through a bitter divorce while raising a beautiful daughter and barely making ends meet. While out and about, I met a woman from Faith Christian Center who asked me if I needed anything. I said, “Yes!” Within a week, she brought me several nice things for my apartment, including five poncho’s. When I received it, God reminded me that I had only given my one cute lime green poncho away.

God knows that I like friendly people, nice things and to feel loved. I gained a  loving relationship with a woman who did not know me. We kept in contact for several years. This wonderful woman of God, invited me out to Faith Christian Center. My daughter and I enjoyed ourselves. It brought me joy to see her in the sanctuary serving in ministry during church service. Her actions reminded me to bless God back by volunteering despite my unpleasant circumstances.  The moral of this story is when you are obedient to God and His Word , He is faithful and will fulfill all of His promises.

Have a Bodacious and Miraculous Day!
