One memorable childhood time with my father was when I was a little girl. Early that morning, my mother made me a big bowl of hot cream of wheat. Oh my goodness, it tasted amazingly great. My mother knew how to cook it so perfect to my liking, smooth and creamy with absolutely no lumps. Umm..umm good!
Later that morning, for the first time ever, my father took us to march in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s parade in Atlanta, Georgia. I remember walking beside my daddy while singing we shall overcome someday. This makes me smile just thinking about this wonderful time with my father.
Although my father worked a heck of a lot to maintain and provide for our family, I truly appreciate him taking the time for me to have this meaningful experience. I’m so extremely thankful that my father knew what mattered and to see many injustices as a black man while moving forward in the struggle.
Surprisingly, while I listened to the Martin Luther King program on yesterday, when it ended I heard them singing, We shall overcome someday. Instantly, I thought about when my father took me to march with him in the MLK parade. When black men spend quality time with their children, it makes an impact.
Here are some of the things that I can do while attempting to overcome everyday. I will take care of myself and enjoy the days that goes well. I will continue to pray and be aware of what’s going on in this world. I will continue to encourage newcomers to register to vote and others to continue to vote. If something is not right or has gone wrong let someone know so that changes can be made. The list goes on. We shall overcome someday.
Have a Bodacious and Miraculous Day!
